Black BRAND Graduation 2025: Empowering Black Entrepreneurs and Professionals in Hampton Roads
On Feb. 1st, 2025, Black BRAND, the Black Chamber of Commerce for Hampton Roads, hosted its first-ever combined graduation ceremony at the stunning Founder’s Inn. Graduates from three transformative programs – B-Force Accelerator, Surge Business Academy, and Women Who Lead – prepared for takeoff after an intensive journey of business growth, leadership development, and entrepreneurial success.
Launching the 2025 Theme: Regional Renaissance
Each of Black BRAND’s signature programs plays a crucial role in advancing Black-owned businesses in Hampton Roads:
- B-Force Accelerator propels businesses toward funding and scalability, equipping entrepreneurs with the tools to secure capital and expand operations.
- SURGE Business Academy empowers emerging businesses with vital knowledge and strategies to flourish in a competitive market.
- Women Who Lead focuses on minority women in leadership, breaking barriers and fostering success in male-dominated industries.
Keynote & Pitch Contest: Inspiration Meets Competition
The energy in the room was electric, especially with a riveting keynote from business leader Gil Bland. His powerful message to “lean into mentors” resonated deeply, reminding graduates that success is built on community, support, and guidance.
The event’s high-stakes Pitch Contest added an extra layer of excitement. Shannon McFadden soared to victory, securing a cash prize to fuel her entrepreneurial dreams, with Edward Fairley as a close runner-up.

The night concluded with an unforgettable afterparty, where graduates, guests, and the Black BRAND community connected, danced, and raised a toast to a future of Black excellence, economic empowerment and thriving businesses in Hampton Roads.
